Working away from the office for long periods can lead to a sense of isolation. Set up a virtual breakfast, coffee or lunch with your coworkers.
Create water cooler moments
It’s important to keep the conversation going, some of our best ideas come from impromptu conversations and connections.

Some people will need/want more interaction than others. Understand the needs of your coworkers & stakeholders so they feel best supported. Establish the best rhythm for each.
Sharing is caring
Share ideas on what successful homeworking looks like for you, it might help others.
Be mindful & inclusive
Be sure everyone gets a chance to contribute on crowded calls, pause for questions and space for comments.
Keep to your usual daily routine
Most successful homeworkers dress as if going to work to create the workplace mindset and quickly get productive.
Maintain daily & weekly rhythm
Run and attend Meetings & daily standups, keeps everyone on the same page.
Have a start work and end work routine
Be present from the get-go and plan the next day in advance.
Be fully present
“When you are on you are on –
when you are off you are off”.

Set clear boundaries to maintain a structure and balance between work & home.
Create a dedicated workspace and routines to maintain focus. Try only to work in that space.
Manage expectations & distractions
Make clear the times you are available to colleagues and also to those in the home, review and adapt if needed.
Set up a daily schedule
Perhaps, use your diary to plan work as well as meetings. If you are balancing work and home life, make sure your team know your availability.
Create breaks (for exercise/stretching)
No one sits at their desk all day in the office, it’s not necessary (or healthy) to do this at home. Sit, stand & mix it up.
Set up your workspace
If you have a monitor and keyboard / mouse – use them to prevent eye strain / neck ache and other posture / fatigue issues.
Set up your workstation so you are comfortable & always follow ergonomic best practices.

Use the tech
Create a ‘Chat’ channel
Use Teams to create a space for quick chat with the team and keep the sharing and conversation going. Set a reminder to check in with the team frequently.
Keep communication dynamic
Start meetings with video to check in and turn it off to preserve bandwidth and moving to audio. Choose direct communication first followed by chat and then finally email.
Why not? Use your gained ‘commute time’ productively … to learn, to keep fit or something else!
